Florencio is an experienced coffee producer and known tailor in his hometown of San Fernando in the department of Chalatenango. During the off-season months, he makes school uniforms and clothing for his clients in nearby communities.
For him, coffee has been a rewarding journey despite the challenges he has faced for more than twenty years. He remembers that his father used to ask him why he wanted to grow coffee but Florencio was simply determined and enthusiastic about this cultivation. In 2019, he joined Caravela’s Grower Education Program and began implementing a quality based approach, focusing on plant management, fertilisation, and better drying techniques. All coffee is grown in the shade on his 1.5-hectare farm.
Currently, he produced varieties such as Pacas, Pacamara, and Parainema, all washed, processed, and fermented depending on the weather conditions. Florencio is proud to be a small-scale farmer who sells his coffee crop with a higher premium compared to the conventional market.
