Jeydi Yesenia Corado Morales

Jeydi is a small-scale coffee grower from San Antonio Huista in Huehuetenango. She runs Finca El Coyegual a 0.43-hectare farm located at 1700 MASL. Two years ago, she embarked on this journey as a coffee grower, and during the last harvest, the focus has been on specialty coffee production only. Thus, this meant implementing better processing practices to improve quality that has led to remarkable results. Now, she is of the many capable at the forefront of coffee farms - debunking the idea that this is a man's job.

However, Jeydi says she is not only a coffee grower but also a mother and a wife. She identifies this as a key challenge, dividing her time between domestic tasks and the farm, making it challenging to keep a balance yet possible. One of the things that makes Jeydi proud is knowing that her work and her coffee are worthy and recognized. In the short term, Jeydi plans to implement organic farming practices and improve pruning and renovation techniques to increase productivity.

America Flordilia Lopez

America Flordilia is a small-scale farmer from San Antonio Huista, Huehuetenango. She took over the farm two years ago when her husband migrated to seek new opportunities in the United States. She learned a lot from him, and now that she is gone, she and her son supervise and manage all field activities and coffee processing.

The Finca Las Peñas has an area of 0.30 hectares, and it takes this name because of the steep slopes surrounded by huge rocks. All coffee is 100% Caturra grows at 1700 MASL. It focuses on dry fermenting for 24 hours and dries on average the coffee for twelve days. For the past two years, she has been working with Caravela accessing technical support and higher premiums, and better prices overall. America wants those who have the opportunity to taste the coffee to know that it was produced by a strong woman.
