Los Idolos is one of Caravela’s custom-created producer groups, designed to deliver long-term benefits for both coffee growers and roasters. It is a staple in both our Golden Hour and Lucky Stars Blends. We requested microlot coffees from this group and this 100% pink bourbon lot from Sonia and Carlos Imbachi was presented to us.
High in the mountains of San Agustín, where the Magdalena River is born, the Imbachi family call home. Before coffee, Carlos Imbachi had a very different trade—working as a treasure hunter, unearthing artefacts from the region’s pre-Colombian past. With his earnings he built a family home in La Argentina, where coffee soon took root.
In the early years, coffee barely sustained him. It wasn’t until Carlos began drying his harvests and later partnered with Caravela that everything changed. With guidance and persistence, he refined his practices, elevating quality with every season.
Today, Carlos is recognised as one of San Agustín’s standout producers—proof that coffee itself can be a treasure, when approached with dedication and care.
Sonia Milena Imbachi and her family continue writing their own story.
Sonia is Carlos' daughter and as such, grew up on a coffee farm. By the age of twelve she was already fascinated by the craft, eager to learn how to bring out the best from each harvest. After marrying, she and her husband started their own farm, experimenting with new methods and refining their practices year after year.
Today, Sonia delights in sharing her coffee with the world—coffee that carries not only her dedication, but also the story of her family and the land they call home.
