High in the mountains of southern Huila, overlooking the Magdalena River, lies the town of San Agustín—renowned for its rich indigenous heritage and home to a UNESCO World Heritage archaeological park. Just outside town, along a winding unpaved road, is Finca Las Juntas, where Yamile Muñoz and her mother grow and process beautiful coffees.
Originally her grandfather’s land, the farm was gradually passed down through the family. Yamile grew up there, but like many, left for the city in search of opportunity. After some years in Bogotá—and with a young child of her own—she returned to the farm, seeking a life rooted in family and the countryside.
Seven years ago, she and her mother began cultivating coffee together. Though they started with commercial-grade lots, they made the leap to specialty coffee two and a half years ago. It’s been a challenging journey, full of learning and long days, but the rewards are clear: better quality, improved income, and a deeper pride in their work. With support from the PECA program, they’ve invested in new varieties, improved infrastructure, and built a drying station that has transformed their processing capacity—with plans for a dedicated storage facility next.
Las Juntas is a place of deep connection: to land, to family, and to the future of Colombian coffee.
