A relatively young washing station, Mulish was established by Testi Coffee in 2014. Located in the Guji region of Ethiopia, Mulish washing station receives cherries from 880 smallholder farmers, working on farms often no larger than 4 hectares. Many farmers subsidise their coffee crops by rearing cattle, or keeping bees. The Guji region is renowned for its high quality coffee; the mountainous terrain creates microclimates, which leads to many complex and unique flavour profiles within the region.
The Mulish washing station is well established as one of the best in the Guji zone, set on a slope leading down to the Mormora river, the washing station sits on four hectares of land and is fully equipped for both washed and natural processing practices. The number of farmers delivering cherry to the station grew so much that in 2016 a second washing station had to be set up to service the region. Now, over one thousand farmers bring their cherries to the Mulish and Bishan Dimo washing stations. Mulish alone can process 7000 kilograms of coffee per hour and has 400 beds to dry the parchment.

We discovered a small seam defect in some of our paper bags, which is allowing air to seep in and causing the coffee to age faster than expected. We’ve been using these bags for a while without any issues, so we believe it’s a manufacturing fault affecting a recent batch.
To ensure quality, we’re immediately switching back to our previous mono-plastic bags while we work with our supplier to find a solution.
